Ingredients for the dough:

  • 5 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 1/2 cups milk

  • 5 tablespoons butter

  • pink food coloring

  • 1 tablespoon strawberry extract

For the strawberry filling:

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

  • chopped strawberries

For the cream cheese frosting:

  • 1 package cream cheese

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • a little cream or milk

How to make:

  1. Gently warm the milk with the butter. Add the strawberry extract and a few drops of pink food coloring. The mixture should be warm, not hot.

  2. Mix the flour, yeast, salt and sugar. Pour in the milk-butter mixture, add the egg and knead a soft dough.

  3. Knead for 10–15 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until the dough has doubled in size.

  4. To make the filling, mix butter, sugar, cream and finely chopped strawberries.

  5. Roll the dough into a rectangle, spread the filling evenly, and roll into a log.

  6. Slice into pieces, place in a greased pan, and let rise for another hour.

  7. Bake at 350°F (about 175°C) for about 28 minutes.

  8. For the frosting, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla and a little cream until creamy.

  9. Spread the warm buns with the frosting and serve. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for a few days.
