Lace Patent Pattern

The yarn overs are placed on the front side of this pattern in a grid. Hence the name of the pattern — lace or netted.

Cast on an odd number of stitches.

Row 1 (wrong side): edge stitch, * 1 knit, 1 stitch with yarn over, purlwise (see photo 1); repeat from *, end: 1 knit, edge stitch.

Row 2 (right side): edge stitch, * 1 knit, * knit the stitch before the yarn over together with the yarn over, purlwise, slip the yarn over as purlwise (while bringing the yarn behind the stitch — see photo 5); repeat from *, end: 1 knit, edge stitch.

Row 3 (wrong side): edge stitch, * knit the stitch and yarn over together purlwise, 1 stitch with yarn over, purlwise; repeat from *, end: knit the stitch and yarn over together purlwise, edge stitch.

Row 4 (right side): edge stitch, * 1 knit, slip the yarn over as purlwise, 1 knit; repeat from ?, end: 1 knit, slip the yarn over as purlwise, edge stitch.

Row 5 (wrong side): edge stitch, * knit the stitch and yarn over together knitwise, 1 stitch with yarn over, purlwise; end: knit the stitch and yarn over together knitwise, edge stitch.

Then repeat from Row 2 to Row 5.
