The eye-catching knitted cardigan Dahlia with a lace back is made with needles by Marina Smirnova from the city of Velikiye Luki.
The original model of the Dahlia cardigan (dahlia) with a lace back is knitted with needles in a special way: first, the lace pattern is knitted from the center in a circle, then stitches are picked up for the front and sleeves... Detailed description below. The model of the cardigan is from Interweave Knits magazine by designer Heather Zoppetti (translated from English).
The description is given for size XS (S, M, L, XL); the width in the chest area (when finished) is 75 (88, 102, 114, 125) cm with an overlap of 10 cm.
You will need 5 (6, 7, 8, 9) skeins of Manos del Uruguay Serena yarn (60% lambswool, 40% cotton, 155 m/50 g); circular needles 3.75 mm long 80 cm; a set of double-pointed needles 3.75 mm for circular knitting; markers and stitch holders; a hook 3.5 mm (for provisional cast-on); a tapestry needle; a contrasting color waste yarn.
Knitting gauge in stockinette stitch: 24 sts and 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm; size of the lace fragment: 32.5 x 32.5 cm.
The cardigan begins with the lace fragment from the center back. Then stitches at the upper and lower edges are closed, and the side stitches are placed on holders. For knitting the upper and lower parts of the back, stitches are picked up separately and knitted from the center, then joined with the stitches of the lace fragment, then knitted across as one piece, and finished with bands in seed stitch. The armhole areas are knitted with waste yarn, then stitches are unraveled, and the open stitches of the armholes are knitted downwards in rounds to the lace cuff (only the right sleeve is shown in the pattern).
Cast on 4 sts with a hook (see instructions).
In the next row, knit 2 sts from each stitch (through the front and back loops) = 8 sts.
Distribute the sts on 4 double-pointed needles and join in a round. Place a marker (PM) at the beginning of the round. Then knit according to chart A from rows 1 to 26, repeating the pattern 4 times (once on each needle) = 136 sts (34 sts on each needle).
Then continue with chart B from rows 1 to 30. When there are many stitches, switch to circular needles and place markers after each repeat = 280 sts (70 sts in each repeat). In the next row, knit the first 70 sts of the right side, then bind off 70 sts for the upper edge, then knit the next 70 sts of the left side, then bind off 70 sts for the lower edge. Transfer 70 sts for the right and left sides to holders.
RIGHT BACK HALF.

Next round: 1 knit, *1 purl, 1 knit, repeat from *;
Next round: 1 purl, *1 knit, 1 purl, repeat from *.
Repeat the last row until the total sleeve length is 45.5 (45.5, 48.5, 48.5, 51) cm. Bind off all stitches according to the pattern.
Carefully unravel the waste yarn from the cast-on row of the lace fragment, using a tapestry needle pull the working yarn through 4 sts of the cast-on row and gently tighten the stitches, closing the center of the pattern.
Lightly steam the product. Sew the upper side of the lace fragment to the upper part of the back, the lower part - to the lower part. Secure and hide the ends of the yarn.
