Next row (RS): bind off 8 (9, 9, 9, 10, 11) stitches, then knit in knit stitches until there are 13 (12, 14, 14, 14, 14) stitches on the right needle, turn; transfer the remaining stitches to a holder.

Now knit both sides separately. Bind off 4 stitches at the beginning of the next row. Then bind off the remaining 9 (8, 10, 10, 10, 10) stitches.

From the RS, join the yarn to the stitches on the holder, bind off the center 8 (8, 8, 10, 10, 10) stitches, knit the row in knit stitches. Knit the second side symmetrically.

Continue knitting straight until the height of the shoulder on the back, finish with a purl row.
