Women's knitted jacket

Chest circumference – 85 (94, 104, 112, 122, 132) cm with an allowance of 4 cm for ease.

You will need: Yarn Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted (100% wool; 206 m / 113 grams per skein) – 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) skeins. Needles No. 4 and No. 4.5, a spare needle, stitch holders, tapestry needle.

Knitting density: 20 stitches and 27 rows = 10 cm of stockinette stitch, knitted with needles No. 4.5;
35 stitches of edging = 14 cm in width.

Note: The cardigan parts are knitted separately in rows back and forth, and then sewn together.

Pattern diagram:

Work description:

Back: Cast on 84 (92, 102, 110, 120, 130) stitches using needles No. 4.

Next row (right side): 1 knit stitch, *1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch through the back loop; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 knit stitch.

Next row: 1 purl stitch, *1 purl stitch through the back loop, 1 knit stitch; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 purl stitch.

Repeat the last 2 rows until the height of the work reaches 4 cm from the cast-on row, end with a purl row.

Change to needles No. 4.5.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch until the height of the work reaches 38 cm from the cast-on row, end with a purl row.

Armhole shaping: Bind off 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then bind off 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 (2, 4, 2, 2, 2) rows – there will be 70 (78, 82, 92, 102, 112) stitches left on the needles.

Bind off 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 (4, 4, 2, 4, 4) rows, then bind off 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2) stitch at the beginning of the next 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 6) rows, then bind off 0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 1) stitches at the beginning of the next 0 (0, 0, 4, 4, 6) rows – there will be 62 (66, 70, 74, 78, 82) stitches left on the needles.

Continue knitting straight until the height of the armhole reaches 18 (19, 19.5, 21, 22, 23) cm, end with a purl row.

Neckline and left shoulder shaping is done using short rows:

1st short row (right side): knit 17 (19, 21, 23, 25, 27) knit stitches and place them on a stitch holder for the right shoulder, bind off 28 stitches, knit to the last 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) stitches, wrap the next stitch and turn the work – there are 17 (19, 21, 23, 25, 27) stitches left for the left shoulder.

2nd short row (wrong side): purl stitches to the end of the row.

3rd short row: 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) knit stitches, wrap the next stitch and turn the work.

4th short row: purl stitches to the end of the row.

Next row (right side): knit stitches to the end of the row, knitting the wrapped stitches together with their wraps.

Knit 1 purl row of purl stitches.

Place the stitches on a stitch holder.

Right shoulder:

Return the 17 (19, 21, 23, 25, 27) stitches of the right shoulder to the needles and attach the working yarn to the wrong side.

1st short row (wrong side): purl stitches to the last 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) stitches, wrap the next stitch and turn the work.

2nd short row (right side): knit stitches to the end of the row.

3rd short row: 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) purl stitches, wrap the next stitch and turn the work.

4th short row: knit stitches to the end of the row.

Next row (wrong side): purl stitches to the end of the row, knitting the wrapped stitches together with their wraps.

Place the stitches on a stitch holder.

Women's knitted jacket

Left front piece:

Cast on 28 (32, 36, 40, 46, 50) stitches using needles No. 4.

Next row (right side): 1 knit stitch, *1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch through the back loop; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 knit stitch.

Next row: 1 purl stitch, *1 purl stitch through the back loop, 1 knit stitch; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 purl stitch.

Repeat the last 2 rows until the height of the work reaches 4 cm from the cast-on row, end with a purl row.

Change to needles No. 4.5.

Next row (right side): knit stitches, adding 0 (0,  1, 1, 0, 1) stitch – there will be 28 (32, 37, 41, 46, 51) stitches on the needles.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch until the height of the work reaches 38 cm from the cast-on row, end with a purl row.

Armhole shaping:

At the beginning of the right side rows, bind off 1 time 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5) stitches, then bind off 1 (1, 2, 1, 1, 1) time 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) stitches – there will be 21 (25, 27, 32, 37, 42) stitches left on the needles.

Knit 1 purl row.

At the beginning of the right side rows, bind off 1 (2, 2, 1, 2, 2) time 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) stitches, then bind off 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3) times 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2) stitch, then bind off 0 (0, 0, 2, 2, 3) times 0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 1) stitches – there will be 17 (19, 21, 23, 25, 27) stitches left on the needles.

Continue knitting straight until the height of the armhole reaches 18 (19, 19.5, 21, 22, 23) cm, end with a right side row.

Shoulder slope shaping is done using short rows:

1st short row (wrong side): purl stitches to the last 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) stitches, wrap the next stitch and turn the work.

2nd short row (right side): knit stitches to the end of the row.

3rd short row: 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) purl stitches, wrap the next stitch and turn the work.

4th short row: knit stitches to the end of the row.

Next row (wrong side): purl stitches to the end of the row, knitting the wrapped stitches together with their wraps.

Place the stitches on a stitch holder.

Right front piece:

Cast on 28 (32, 36, 40, 46, 50) stitches using needles No. 4.

Next row (right side): 1 knit stitch, *1 knit stitch through the back loop, 1 purl stitch; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 knit stitch.

Next row (wrong side): 1 purl stitch, *1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch through the back loop; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 purl stitch.

Repeat the last 2 rows until the height of the work reaches 4 cm from the cast-on row, end with a purl row.

Change to needles No. 4.5.

Next row (right side): knit stitches, adding 0 (0,  1, 1, 0, 1) stitch – there will be 28 (32, 37, 41, 46, 51) stitches on the needles.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch until the height of the work reaches 38 cm from the cast-on row, end with a right side row.

Armhole shaping:

At the beginning of the wrong side rows, bind off 1 time 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5) stitches, then bind off 1 (1, 2, 1, 1, 1) time 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) stitches – there will be 21 (25, 27, 32, 37, 42) stitches left on the needles.

Knit 1 purl row.

At the beginning of the wrong side rows, bind off 1 (2, 2, 1, 2, 2) time 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) stitches, then bind off 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 3) times 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2) stitch, then bind off 0 (0, 0, 2, 2, 3) times 0 (0, 0, 1, 1, 1) stitches – there will be 17 (19, 21, 23, 25, 27) stitches left on the needles.

Continue knitting straight until the height of the armhole reaches 18 (19, 19.5, 21, 22, 23) cm, end with a wrong side row.

Shoulder slope shaping is done using short rows:

Next row: purl stitches. Place the stitches on a stitch holder.

Sleeves:

Cast on 40 (40, 44, 44, 48, 48) stitches using needles No. 4.

Next row (right side): 1 knit stitch, *1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch through the back loop; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 knit stitch.

Next row (wrong side): 1 purl stitch, *1 purl stitch through the back loop, 1 knit stitch; repeat from * to the last stitch, 1 purl stitch.

Repeat the last 2 rows until the height of the work reaches 5 cm from the cast-on row, end with a purl row.

Change to needles No. 4.5.

Continue knitting in stockinette stitch until the height of the work reaches 8 cm from the cast-on row, end with a purl row.

Increase row (right side): 1 knit stitch, increase 1 stitch from the strand, knit stitches to the last stitch, increase 1 stitch from the strand, 1 knit stitch – 2 stitches have been added.

Repeat these increases every 10 (10, 10, 8, 8, 6) rows for another 8 (10, 10, 12, 12, 14) times – there will be 58 (62, 66, 70, 74, 78) stitches on the needles.

Continue knitting straight until the height of the work reaches 50 (50, 50, 50, 51, 51) cm, end with a purl row.

Sleeve cap:

Bind off 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then bind off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next 26 (30, 32, 22, 24, 28) rows – there will be 24 (24, 26, 38, 40, 40) stitches left on the needles.

Bind off 2 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 (2, 2, 8, 8, 8) rows, then bind off 3 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows – there will be 14 (14, 16, 16, 18, 18) stitches left. Bind off all stitches.





Finishing:

Weave in the ends of the yarn. Steam the pieces.

Fold the pieces right sides facing each other and bind off the shoulder stitches with

Collar: (2 pieces)

Cast on 37 stitches using needles No. 4.5.

Setup row (wrong side): 3 purl stitches, 2 knit stitches, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch, 3 knit stitches, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, 2 stitches together purlwise, 1 yarn over, 2 stitches together purlwise, 3 knit stitches, 2 stitches together purlwise, 1 yarn over, 2 stitches together purlwise, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch, 3 knit stitches, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch, 2 knit stitches, 3 purl stitches – there will be 35 stitches left on the needles.

Knit the pattern according to the scheme until the height of the work reaches 66 (67.5, 68, 69, 70.5, 71) cm from the cast-on row or to the length that when slightly stretched, the collar will equal the length of the edge of the front piece to the center of the neckline on the back, end with the 12th row.

Next row (right side): 3 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, 3 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch through the back loop, 1 yarn over, drop the next 5 stitches from the left needle, 1 knit stitch through the back loop, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, 3 purl stitches, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, 2 purl stitches, 3 knit stitches.

Move the stitches to a stitch holder.

Assembly: Join both collar pieces together with right sides facing each other and bind off the stitches with three needles.

Sew the edge of the collar to the edge of the front pieces and the neckline on the back. Steam the seams of the women's cardigan.
