Lace top knitted with needles

Size: 40–42 (European)
Model made with knitting needles.

You will need:

• 50g of coral-colored yarn (80% super kid mohair, 20% polyamide, 250m/25g)

• Crochet hooks No. 2 and No. 1

• 100g of high-twist yarn (450m/100g)

• Knitting needles No. 3 and 3.5

The top is knitted with mohair and cotton yarn in an openwork pattern with a symmetrical motif (see chart 22).
The gauge using mohair yarn in the “landscape” pattern:
1 repeat (29 sts) × 45 rows = 12 × 10 cm.

Instructions:

For the back, cast on 103 stitches on needles and knit 5 rows in garter stitch with mohair yarn.
On the 6th wrong-side row, transfer the stitches to an auxiliary chain using a crochet hook and connect the fabric according to the diagram.
Pick up stitches using a crochet hook, placing it in front of each stitch and knitting them together (see fig. 22a).

Continue knitting in alternating stripes of mohair and cotton yarn from five separate balls, distributing the stitches as follows:

• 8 stitches in stockinette stitch with mohair yarn

• 29 stitches in lace pattern with cotton yarn

• 29 stitches in lace pattern with mohair

• 29 stitches in lace pattern with cotton yarn

• 8 stitches in stockinette stitch with mohair yarn

Attention!

Knit the lace pattern according to chart 22 from rows 1 to 47, then repeat rows 15 to 48.
Only right-side rows are shown in the chart.
Purl all stitches and yarn overs on the wrong side.
To avoid distortion of the fabric, switch yarns at the same height, twisting the yarns on the wrong side.

Armholes:

After 42 cm from the cast-on edge, bind off 4 stitches on each side, then 2 stitches once and 1 stitch twice.

Finish both parts symmetrically.
At the same time, start shaping the neckline.
At 42 cm from the start, bind off the center 31 stitches and finish each side separately, making neckline decreases according to the pattern and shape.

At 16 cm from the beginning of the armhole, shape the shoulder slopes.
Sew the side and shoulder seams.

Finishing the armholes:

Pick up stitches along the edge, knit 5–6 rows of stockinette stitch with mohair yarn, fold the strip in half, and sew it to the right side of the garment.

• In the chart, only the right-side rows are given.

• In the wrong-side rows, all stitches and yarn overs are purled as purl stitches.

• The pattern repeat consists of 29 stitches in width.

• Repeat from rows 1 to 14, then — from rows 15 to 48.

🔄 Explanation of special symbols:

• ∪ (on the chart as "3 of 1") — knit:

  • 1 knit stitch,

  • 1 yarn over,

  • 1 knit stitch — from one stitch.

• ∧ with the number "3" — knit 3 stitches together:

  • First, insert the needle into 3 stitches at once,

  • Yarn over,

  • Pull through all three stitches.

• ⊠ (twisted knit) — knit through the back loop to twist the stitch.
