The raglan sweater with a modern dynamic design attracts attention with its unusual diverging braids.
Sizes
36/38 (40/42) 44/46
You will need
Yarn (70% natural wool, 30% baby camel wool; 125 m/50 g) — 500 (550) 600 g light gray; needles No. 3 and 4; circular needles No. 3.
Patterns and diagrams
The following patterns should be knitted with needles No. 4.
Stockinette stitch
Right side rows — knit stitches, wrong side rows — purl stitches.
«Braid» A (for 12 stitches)
Knit according to pattern 1. It shows the right side rows. In the wrong side rows, knit all stitches according to the pattern. Constantly repeat rows 1—14.
«Braid» B (for 12 stitches)
Knit as pattern «braid» A, but according to pattern 2.
Emphasized decreases A (back/front)
In the right side row at the beginning of the row knit the edge stitch,
10 stitches in the pattern of «braid» A according to the pattern,
2 stitches knit together purl;
at the end of the row knit until the last 13 stitches,
then 2 stitches knit together purlwise through the back loop,
10 stitches in the pattern of «braid» B according to the pattern,
edge stitch.
Reverse stockinette stitch
Right side rows — purl stitches, wrong side rows — knit stitches.
Cross ribbing
* 2 rows of reverse stockinette stitch,
2 rows of stockinette stitch,
repeat from * constantly.
Emphasized increases
At the beginning of the row after the edge stitch + 1 knit and at the end of the row before the last knit stitch + edge stitch add 1 knit through the back loop from the cross thread and knit in stockinette stitch.
Emphasized decreases B (sleeves)
In the right side row at the beginning of the row knit the edge stitch,
2 stitches knit together leaning left (1 stitch slip as knit, 1 knit, then pull it through the slipped stitch);
at the end of the row knit until the last 3 stitches,
then 2 stitches knit together knitwise,
edge stitch.
Ribbing
Knit alternately 1 knit, 1 purl.
Knitting density
19 stitches x 29 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitted in stockinette stitch,
12 stitches and 10 stitches + decrease stitch + edge stitch = width 4 cm, knitted in patterns «braid» A and B;
19 stitches x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitted in cross ribbing.
Pattern
Execution of work
Back
Cast on 96 (104) 110 stitches using the cross method and knit as follows: edge stitch, 41 (45) 48 stitches in stockinette stitch, 12 stitches in pattern «braid» A, 41 (45) 48 stitches in stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
To start the raglan slope after 37 cm = 108 rows from the starting row, knit as follows, starting the outer «braids» from the 11th row of the pattern: bind off 5 stitches, 12 stitches in pattern «braid» A, 25 (29) 32 stitches in stockinette stitch, continue knitting 12 stitches in pattern «braid» A, 25 (29) 32 stitches in stockinette stitch, 12 stitches in pattern «braid» B, bind off 5 stitches = 86 (94) 100 stitches. In the wrong side row, knit the stitches according to the pattern, while the 1st and last stitches continue to be knitted as edge stitches.
Attention
Reduction of width due to «braids» of the raglan is accounted for in the size of the raglan slope.
In the 5th row from the change of pattern = in the 113th row from the starting row, emphasize to decrease for the raglan slope on both sides 1 x 1 stitch, then emphasize to decrease every 2nd row 0 (2) 3 x 1 stitch and every 4th row 13 (14) 15 x 1 stitch, while constantly performing emphasized decreases A.
After 57 cm = 166 rows (60 cm = 174 rows) 62 cm = 180 rows from the starting row leave the remaining 58 (60) 62 stitches.
Attention
Due to the additional «braid» the front is slightly narrower than the back. This balances out when wearing the garment.
The cross ribbing at the bottom of the front gathers in height. This is depicted on the pattern as a rounding.
Front
Cast on 96 (104) 110 stitches using the cross method and knit as follows: edge stitch, 8 (12) 15 stitches in stockinette stitch, 12 stitches in pattern «braid» A, 54 stitches in cross ribbing, 12 stitches in pattern «braid» B, 8 (12) 15 stitches in stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
For diagonal placement of the «braids» in the 5th row from the starting row, knit as follows: before the pattern «braid» A, add 1 knit through the back loop from the cross thread and continue knitting in stockinette stitch, knit the last stitch of the pattern «braid» A together with the 1st stitch of the cross ribbing purlwise, knit the last stitch of the cross ribbing together with the 1st stitch of the pattern «braid» B purlwise through the back loop, after the pattern «braid» B, add 1 knit through the back loop from the cross thread and continue knitting in stockinette stitch; the «braids» shift inward, the cross ribbing shortens, and the number of stitches remains unchanged. Repeat these increases and decreases 27 more times every 4th row, while for the last decrease in the middle, knit 2 x 2 stitches together purlwise.
After 37 cm = 108 rows from the starting row, there will be 2 purl stitches left between patterns «braid» A and B; continue knitting both «braids» as a double «braid» for 22 stitches, which is calculated on the pattern for a total of 7 cm.
Simultaneously perform the start of the raglan slope and then the raglan slope, as on the back. At the height of the back leave the remaining 58 (60) 62 stitches.
Sleeves
Cast on 50 (54) 58 stitches for each sleeve using the cross method and for the cuff between the edge stitches knit 3 cm in ribbing, while in the last wrong side row add 1 stitch on both sides = 52 (56) 60 stitches.
Continue working as follows: edge stitch, 1 (3) 5 stitches in stockinette stitch, 12 stitches in pattern «braid» A, 24 stitches in cross ribbing, 12 stitches in pattern «braid» B, 1 (3) 5 stitches in stockinette stitch, edge stitch.
Attention
Due to the cuff, the cross ribbing stretches and there is no gathering in height here.
After 2.5 cm = 8 rows from the cuff, emphasize to add for the slope of the sleeve on both sides 1 x 1 stitch, then emphasize to add 12 x 1 stitch every 8th row (alternating every 6th and 8th row 13 x 1 stitch) in every 6th row 14 x 1 stitch.
Simultaneously after 11 cm = 32 rows from the cuff continue working for the diagonal placement of the «braids», as on the front, and repeat the increases and decreases 12 more times every 4th row.
After 28 cm = 81 rows from the cuff, there will be 2 purl stitches left between patterns «braid» A and B.
Continue working with the double «braid» according to the pattern. After the last increase for the slopes of the sleeves, the number of stitches will reach 78 (84) 90 stitches.
After 39.5 cm = 114 rows (37 cm = 108 rows) 35 cm = 102 rows from the cuff, bind off to start the raglan on both sides 1 x 5 stitches, then continue working in cross ribbing = 68 (74) 80 stitches.
Attention
The expansion of the upper part of the sleeve due to the change of pattern is accounted for in the size of the raglan slope.
In the 3rd row from the change of pattern, emphasize to decrease for the raglan slope on both sides 1 x 1 stitch, then in every 4th row emphasize to decrease 13 (16) 19 x 1 stitch, while constantly performing emphasized decreases B.
After 15.5 cm = 56 rows (19 cm = 68 rows) 22 cm = 80 rows from the change of pattern or after 55 cm = 170 rows (56 cm = 176 rows) 57 cm = 182 rows from the cuff leave the remaining 40 stitches.
Assembly
Sew the raglan seams, stretching the edges of the raglan sleeves to the required height. Sew the side seams and sleeve seams.
Cast on the remaining stitches of the neckline of all parts on circular needles and knit the neckline band on all 196 (200) 204 stitches in ribbing, while in the 1st round knit the corresponding edge stitches together according to the pattern = 192 (196) 200 stitches.
With a band width of 5 cm, bind off all stitches with double thread using needles No. 4, constantly * knit 2 stitches together purlwise, bind off 1 stitch, repeat from * until all stitches are used up.
