The yoke is an interesting element of clothing that has become popular among many craftswomen, despite its complexity. Knitting a round yoke is the most challenging; you need to make accurate calculations so that the yoke "sits" evenly on the shoulders, does not ripple, and does not constrict the garment. It is also important to take into account and knit a back neck, so that the front does not slide back.

Materials:

Yarn Pechorka “Elegant”, 100% merino wool, 250m/100g, consumption — 5 skeins.
Circular needles No. 3 (cable length 40 cm), No. 3.5 (cable length 60-80 cm). Knitting gauge in stockinette stitch 22 sts x 27 rows.

Description for size S.

Neckline and yoke
On circular needles No. 3, cast on 80 sts + 1 st to join in the round. Knit the neckline in 1x1 ribbing for 8 rows. Then switch to needles No. 3.5 and knit the yoke pattern according to the chart. See the chart below.

In this size, there are 10 repeats of the pattern. When the yoke is knitted, there should be 320 stitches on the needles. The beginning of the knitting is the center of the back. Divide the stitches into "back", "sleeves", and "front".

Knit 48 stitches for the back and place 64 stitches for the sleeve on a holder, cast on 2 stitches for the underarm, place a marker to indicate the side seam, cast on 2 stitches for the underarm. Then knit 96 stitches for the front. Again, place 64 stitches for the sleeve on a holder, cast on 2 stitches for the underarm, place a marker, and cast on another 2 stitches for the underarm. Knit the second part of the back — 48 sts.

Asian neck
Knit one full row for the back. Place the front stitches on a spare cable, and form the Asian neck on the back stitches — knit back and forth for 7 rows. The neck is knitted with curves — for instructions on how to knit an Asian neck, see the material.

Main fabric
When the neck is complete, return the front stitches to the circular needles and knit the fabric in the round to the desired length, making decreases along the side seams marked by markers.

Decrease two stitches from each side every 6th row, 9 times. Make the decreases by knitting two stitches together with a right-leaning decrease from the left side of the marker and a left-leaning decrease from the right side of the marker*.

Switch to needles No. 3 and finish the bottom with 1x1 ribbing — 10 rows. Bind off the stitches with a needle.

Sleeves
Transfer the sleeve stitches from the holder to the needles, pick up the stitches for the underarms, and pick up stitches along the rounded edge of the neck.

Mark the inner line of the sleeve with a marker. Knit the sleeve to the desired length, making decreases along the inner line of the sleeve by 2 stitches every 6th row, 12 times, as mentioned above (*).

Switch to needles No. 3 and finish the sleeve with 1x1 ribbing — 17 rows. Bind off the stitches with a needle.

Repeat the same for the second sleeve.

Other sizes of the yoke

It is necessary to knit a sample of the patterned yoke — one repeat, and after washing and blocking, make the calculations for the required size.

The main measurements are the circumference of the neckline; the upper chest circumference together with the arms at the armpit line, while the arms should be raised about 20 cm; the third measurement is the length of the yoke.

The length of the yoke should correspond to the line of the raglan or be 2-3 cm shorter, so that the yoke does not "go" into the armpit area.
