This is a pattern chart for knitting. The symbols represent specific types of stitches. The interpretation will depend on the notation that usually accompanies the chart. In this case, there are none in the image, but I can offer the most common interpretation of the symbols:
📘 Key to Symbols (according to the standard knitting notation system):
| Symbol | Notation | Description |
|---|---|---|
I |
Knit stitch | Knit as a knit stitch |
- |
Purl stitch | Knit as a purl stitch |
X |
2 stitches together knit | Decrease — knit 2 stitches together |
U |
Yarn over | Increase — make a yarn over |
> |
2 stitches together leaning right | Decrease — 2 stitches together knit right |
< |
2 stitches together leaning left | Decrease — 2 stitches together knit left |
🧶 General Remarks:
-
Read from bottom to top, from row 1 to row 40.
-
Even rows — most likely purls (knit as per pattern).
-
The pattern is symmetrical, with a central part and symmetrical decreases on both sides.
-
The basis of the pattern consists of yarn overs and decreases — this is likely a lace (lace wedge) or "leaf"-shaped pattern.
